Vietnam Veteran's Day - Long Tan - 18th August

Our first full day in Vietnam fell on Australia's Vietnam Veteran's Day.

This day is the anniversary of the famous battle of Long Tan.  On the 18th August, 1966, vastly outnumbered Australian troops held off the NVA as they advanced towards the Australian base at Nui Dat.  During the battle 18 young Australians lost their lives with their average age being only 21 years old.

An important day in Australian History and for all those who served during the Vietnam War.  A moving memorial service with representatives from both Australian and New Zealand speaking.

For those who are not aware of the circumstances of the battle and what occurred on that day, see below;

After the formalities the Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr Hugh Borrowman met the team and was presented with an official team shirt.

The evening was spent relaxing in the hotel and watching football.
